Cellex Completes Field Trials
Cellex Power Products Inc. of Richmond, British
Columbia, Canada, has successfully completed its
Alpha hydrogen fuel cell product field trials
at the logistics subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores
Inc. During the field trials, Wal-Mart agreed
to support Cellexs Beta field trials and
commercialization process of fuel cell power systems
for electric lift trucks. Crown Equipment Corp.,
a leading North American electric lift truck company,
will participate by supplying the lift trucks.
Cellex had four fuel cell power units power a
fleet of pallet trucks for two weeks at a food
distribution center in Missouri to demonstrate
the operational benefits. The power units ran
without safety incident and refueled with compressed
hydrogen in one minute.
Lead acid batteries typically last four to eight
hours and large distribution centers often change
batteries over 300 times per day, resulting in
lost productivity and increased cost. Cellexs
fuel cell power units eliminate battery changing,
run longer than batteries, maintain consistent
power delivery to the lift truck, and quickly
refuel.
