Filters Control Cathode Air Contamination
Donaldson Company Inc.s new filter media
is designed for fuel cell cathode air contamination
control applications. The patented media removes
airborne particulate, as current filters do, and
also removes airborne chemicals that negatively
affect fuel cell performance.
While airborne chemicals vary, they are generally
referred to as volatile organic compounds (VOCs),
and can include alpha hydroxy toluene, citrine,
mineral spirits, diethylene glycol, terpene alcohol,
linear olephinic hydrocarbon, and many other compounds
that can negatively affect fuel cell performance.
The new media allows fuel cell makers to upgrade
existing filters at costs lower than custom-engineered
filtration solutions. Its ability to be packaged
in various ways allows broad flexibility in filter
design and format.
Donaldson fuel cell contamination control (FC3)
filters have been protecting fuel cells since
2000, and are now installed on more than 700 fuel
cells, from milliwatts to megawatts, in Asia,
Europe and North America.
