Battery Plant Will Employ More than 100

The Kansas City Business Journal reports that an energy-efficient lithium battery manufacturer expects to employ more than 100 people in a new plant in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, during the next two years.

Kokam America Inc. received a multimillion-dollar defense contract and entered into a partnership with Kansas City. Kokam said its batteries will be smaller, lighter and more energy efficient than traditional batteries. The South Korean-owned company retrofitted a former Serta Mattress Co. plant. Manufacturing will take place in new clean rooms.
