Atraverda Reaches Indian Battery Deal
Welsh advanced battery technology supplier Atraverda has entered into a commercial relationship with Exide, the largest manufacturer of lead-acid storage batteries in South Asia. The two companies are working together to develop bipolar lead-acid batteries for a range of power storage applications, using Atraverda’s patented Ebonex technology.
Atraverda’s bipolar product is a technological advancement on the typical lead-acid battery, being significantly smaller, lighter and more environmentally friendly with large reductions in lead content. The technology is based on a titanium suboxide material which has a unique combination of metallic-like electrical conductivity along with the characteristic high corrosion resistance of ceramics.
Andrew Dixey, group chief executive officer (pictured), says, “By harnessing Exide’s experience, contacts and industry know-how, we can evaluate the real impact of our Ebonex technology.”
Atraverde, based in Abertillery, Wales, is also working with Pennsylvania-based East Penn Manufacturing Co., world’s largest independent battery maker.
