Firefly Energy Inc., the Peoria, Illinois, company developing an innovative 3-D carbon-graphite foam lead- acid battery for commercial and military applications, is receiving an R&D Magazine R&D 100 award for 2007.

The 100 awards are presented in the September R&D Magazine, and are recognized as the “Oscars of Invention” by the Chicago Tribune. They will be presented at a black-tie dinner on October 18 at Chicago’s Navy Pier.

“The drive for technological innovation inherent at Firefly Energy is the spirit found in past winners of this award,” says Ed Williams, CEO of Firefly Energy.

Kurt Kelley (shown above), the inventor of Firefly’s graphite foam battery technology, adds that “our battery technology can rival other advanced chemistries in performance, take advantage of an existing manufacturing base and address environmental concerns through the removal of up to two-thirds of the lead content.”
