Energizer Expands Vermont Plant

The Vermont Economic Progress Council (VEPC) has approved almost a half-million dollars in job creation incentives at the Energizer plant in St. Albans for a potential lithium battery manufacturing expansion project. The council authorized up to $496,000 under its new Vermont Employment Growth Incentive program (VEGI).

“Energizer competes in the global economy, and the St. Albans plant can have an expanded role in the production of lithium batteries for worldwide distribution,” said VEPC Chair Karen Marshall.

In Vermont, Energizer has battery production facilities in Bennington and St. Albans. The latter facility manufactures injection-molded flashlights, lanterns and battery parts, as well as AA and AAA lithium batteries. After costs, including the cost of the tax credits, the state would see $752,500 in new revenues from the project.

“These are revenues from jobs and investments that would not have occurred unless the incentives were approved,” Marshall explained.
