Philadelphia Scientific of Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania, reports that its SmartBlinky™ battery watering monitor has been classified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. as an electrical accessory for use in industrial trucks. The company’s SmartBlinky and the original Blinky™ are the only battery watering monitors to be UL-classified as electrical accessories for industrial trucks. Any UL-classified battery equipped with a watering monitor is required to use a UL-classified monitor.

Using microprocessor technology, the SmartBlinky monitors battery cell electrolyte levels. With the largest and brightest indicator lamp available, the light automatically changes from green to red when the battery needs water. Unlike older technologies, which have no color differentiation or can flicker between red and green indications, the SmartBlinky monitors electrolyte levels over a period of time, ensuring a more reliable signal. It has a low current draw because the microprocessor manages power usage in each part of the device. The remote electrolyte probe is small enough to fit the smallest cells and the indicator body can be mounted on the outer edge of the battery for improved visibility.
