Tyco Center Provides Battery Pack Expertise

Tyco Electronics’ global UL accredited battery test center in Shanghai, China, will assist designers and developers of battery-powered devices with attaining agency approvals and other battery-related design and test services. The staff at the center provides assistance with cell qualifications for lithium-ion, nickel-metal hydride and nickel cadmium cell chemistries.

Some of the service capabilities of the center include cell performance testing and safety tests per UL 1642, Tyco Electronics’ specifications, as well as a host of custom tests as specified by OEMs.

In addition to cell phone battery services, Tyco Electronics also performs qualification tests on custom battery packs. Testing to OEM and Tyco Electronics’ specifications is performed on-site as well as safety testing to UL2054. Other services performed at its Global Battery Test Center include: IEEE 1625 specifications for notebook computer power, IEEE 1725 specifications for cell phone power, protection circuit module qualification, and services for the safety and troubleshooting of cell suppliers and OEMs.

The Tyco Electronics Global Battery Test Center is equipped with simulation/test equipment for: altitude, overcharge, temperature cycling, mechanical shock, vibration, swelling, salt spray, ESD, dust, humidity, and several other conditions.

Supplementing the physical test and evaluation capabilities is a complete staff of battery pack design engineers, agency approval specialists and other test staff.
