Tata AutoComp Launches New Car Batteries

Tata AutoComp GY Batteries Pvt. Ltd. of India, the 50:50 joint venture between Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd. and GS Yuasa International of Japan, has launched Tata Green, a new range of car batteries. CEO Yogesh Dhawan reports that the batteries will be manufactured at its Ranjangaon facility in Pune. The company is investing Rs100 crore in the 15-acre facility. Although its total capacity is two million, the unit will initially produce half a million units and cater to the passenger car and utility vehicles segment. Later it will manufacture batteries for commercial vehicles, farm vehicles and two-wheelers before the end of the year. Tata Green will have features such as longer battery life and shelf life and higher levels of vibration resistance on all types of Indian terrain. It also would deliver high cranking power for instant starts.
