Amara Raja to Foray into Two-wheeler Batteries

Amara Raja Batteries Ltd. of India plans to set up a plant at an investment of Rs113 crore to produce two-wheeler batteries and small-sized valve-regulated lead acid batteries, mainly for UPS applications. It produces batteries for industrial applications and passenger car batteries. Managing Director Jay Galla says that the company's Amaron passenger car battery business had stabilized and hence was prepared to diversify its product range. A new line would be put up at its existing unit near Tirupathi. The project would take three years to complete. While the product would be launched in the second quarter of the next financial year, the new unit would produce to its full capacity of 5.4 million units only after three years.
