Siemens Acquires Ballard's EDB

Siemens VDO Automotive Corp. has acquired Ballard Power Systems Inc.'s Electric Drive Business in Dearborn, Michigan. This gives Siemens VDO complete access to Ballard's 66,000 square-foot research, development and manufacturing operation and will integrate 80 highly specialized personnel into the organization. Ballard's Dearborn-based employees will join Siemens's powertrain electronics and drivetrain division. The manufacturing capabilities, technical expertise and highly skilled workforce will elevate Siemens VDO's North American hybrid business. Dearborn now will be Siemens VDO's center of expertise for the advancement of power electronics, motor design and electrical drive systems for hybrid and fuel cell applications.
