Ametek Buys Precitech, Opens Moscow Office
AMETEK Inc. of Paoli, Pennsylvania, has acquired Precitech, a leading manufacturer of ultra-precision machining systems for markets including nanotechnology, military, defense, and ophthalmic. Headquartered in Keene, New Hampshire, Precitech was purchased for approximately $13 million in cash and has annual sales of $19 million. It joins AMETEK as part of its Electronic Instruments Group.
AMETEK’s initial entry into ultra-precision manufacturing and nanotechnology was in 2004 when it acquired Taylor Hobson. In 2005 AMETEK bought Solartron Metrology, a leader in digital and analog instruments used to precisely measure the size and form of machined or fabricated parts.
In other news, AMETEK has opened a marketing and service office in Moscow with Dr. Yuliy Lieb as its general director. Lieb holds masters of science degrees in applied mathematics and mechanical engineering from the Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics as well as a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the A.L. Mintz Radio Technology Institute of Russian Academy of Science in Moscow. He has been employed with AMETEK since 1999, most recently serving as director of technology in its aerospace and defense business.
