Amberjac Helps JCB Streamliner Set Record

Amberjac Projects Ltd., U.K, reports that Andy Green and the JCB Dieselmax team set a 350mph world landspeed record using Amberjac-developed and -built battery systems and chargers for the JCB Streamliner.

An alternator is not used to provide electrical power due to the reduction in engine power caused by an alternator under high load. The electrical systems, fuel pump, turbo waste, and ancillary equipment draw a very high current from the battery for a sustained period over the speed runs. The environment would be considered an abuse condition for many batteries and the safety problems precluded the use of traditional Li-ion batteries.

“This is further validation of our capability as a company to develop and produce high performance safe lithium-ion systems for automotive applications,” said Managing Director Simon Sheldon, “and demonstrates that the era of high power lithium solutions has arrived, even for the toughest of applications such as breaking records.”
