Amara Raja Plans Capacity Expansion

Amara Raja Batteries Ltd, Chennai, India, will increase its automotive battery capacity by 50% from 3.6mm units per annum to 5.4mm units per annum. The company will invest Rs 88.2 crore for this purpose. The expansion project will be completed by the second quarter of FY08. With the completion of the current expansion, the company will have more than trebled its capacity since January 2005. The current expansion to 5.4mm units would be the single largest investment made by the company in the automotive battery business.
