Kyoho Makes Plant For Hybrid Vehicle Equipment
Toyota Motor Corp. affiliate Kyoho Machine Works,
a maker of pressed parts, will establish a site
for the production of hybrid vehicle electric
equipment by 2008.
By about 2012, Toyota plans to raise sales of
hybrid vehicles worldwide to 1 million units.
Total investment in the site will be around ¥3B.
The Obara plant currently produces pressed parts
and resin-formed parts used in hybrid vehicle
battery modules. Hybrid vehicles currently use
nickel metal hydride batteries, but lithium batteries
will likely become the chief battery type in the
future. Kyoho plans to introduce production equipment
that is compatible with lithium batteries.
