DJ India Eveready Raises Battery Prices

Eveready Industries India Ltd. raised battery prices by INR1 each on June 1. The price increase is due to a rise in zinc prices, says Deepak Khaitan, executive vice chairman and managing director of the company. “On the London Metal Exchange zinc is $3,100 a ton, up from $1,300 a ton last year,” Khaitan says.

Also, domestic zinc manufacturer, Hindustan Zinc Ltd., is adding a $150 a ton premium to LME prices. A dry cell D-size battery will now cost around INR11.
