TAFE Invests in Lead Acid Battery Plant
TAFE-Power Source, a division of Tractors and
Farm Equipment Ltd. (TAFE) in India, has invested
around Rs50 crore in its new valve regulated lead
acid battery facility in Maraimalai Nagar, a suburb
of Chennai. The plant is expected to begin commercial
production this year.
Jayshree Venkatraman, director of TAFE, said that
the new facility, spanning over 8.7 acres, would
manufacture the entire range of VRLA batteries
from 6V1.2AH to 12.230AH. The unit would be the
companys third plant in Maraimalai Nagar.
TAFE-Power Source had entered into an agreement
with the Chinese-based battery maker, BB Battery
Co. Ltd. last year. Under the agreement the Chinese
firm provides technological expertise on VRLA
batteries to the former. TAFE-Power Source also
has an exclusive tie-up with the BB Battery Co.
to export VRLA batteries to all the SAARC countries.
