Hai Phong Sends Used Batteries Back to Japan
The Hai Phong City Peoples Committee in
Vietnam ordered 26 of 39 containers loaded with
used lead batteries returned to Japan by their
would-be importers.
The other 13 containers, all unclaimed, were either
being referred to the police, who will have responsibility
for any subsequent charges and prosecutions, or
they were going to any Lao enterprise that wants
them. Shipment to Laos was to be supervised by
Hai Phong Natural Resources and Environment Department.
If the batteries are not re-exported they will
be destroyed by a company chosen by the Peoples
Committee. The decision was announced after a
meeting between the Peoples Committee and
relevant ministries, agencies and representatives
of central and Hai Phong offices.
