Valence Receives Patent for Phosphate Technology
Valence Technology, Inc. of Austin, Texas, has
been granted U.S. patent 7,001,690 entitled Lithium-based
Active Materials and Preparation Thereof
which relates to the companys Saphion I
technology, the key component of its rechargeable
lithium-ion battery systems.
A key benefit of Saphion I technology is its inherent
electrochemical stability, which enables the creation
of large, high energy density lithium-ion batteries.
It utilizes natural, phosphate-based cathode material
in place of the less stable and more costly cobalt-oxide
used in most of todays Li-ion batteries.
As a result, battery systems can be designed into
a wide variety of products in markets not previously
served by traditional Li-ion batteries.
Our Saphion battery systems have been commercially
available for more than three years and are steadily
gaining traction in a number of markets, including
motive, health care, education and defense,
says Dr. James Akridge, president and CEO of Valence
Technology, Inc.
