Electro Energy gets $1M from new DoD budget

Electro Energy Inc., a Danbury, Connecticut-based provider of advanced battery technologies and associated systems, will receive $1 million for the development and demonstration of its bipolar lithium-ion battery for communication applications. The funding was included in the fiscal 2006 Department of Defense appropriations bill. The project will be carried out at Electro Energy’s facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Electro Energy was also included in the Department of Energy’s Energy and Water Development Bill, passed in November, receiving $1.5 million in funding for development of its nickel-metal hydride batteries.

Electro Energy’s 150- to 500V NiMH batteries have the potential to be used for utility, wind, solar and backup power applications.

The company also supplies aerospace-grade nickel cadmium batteries for satellites, aircraft and other applications and is developing high-power lithium rechargeable batteries using its existing designs.
