Electro Energy Receives Army Funding
Electro Energy Inc. of Danbury, Connecticut,
will receive $1.0 million from the 2006 budget
of the U.S. Army for development and demonstration
of its bipolar lithium-ion battery for communication
applications. The funding was included in the
fiscal year 2006 Department of Defense appropriations
bill. The project will be carried out at Electro
Energys facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The DoD funding will allow Electro Energy
to continue development of applying its patented
bipolar wafer-cell technology to the Li-ion chemistry
for U.S. Army communications systems and other
applications, says Michael E. Reed, Electro
Energys president and COO. The adaptation
of the EEEI bipolar wafer design to lithium batteries
offers the potential advantages of better volumetric
energy density, lower cost and higher power density
than conventional designs.
