DAB Module Achieves 100-Hour Battery Life
The Venice 4.0 FS2024 DAB/FM/RDS consumes only
one-quarter of the battery power used by competing
modules. It enables battery-powered radios to
operate in DAB mode for over 100 hours using standard
alkaline batteries.
A high level of integration is achieved on the
front-end RF of the module through the Apollo
silicon tuner, which combines band III DAB capability
with band II for FM/RDS using minimal external
components. To maximize battery life, Apollo silicon
tuner employs near-zero IF techniques, making
it an energy-efficient DAB/FM tuner. The Chorus
multimedia processor allows the module to implement
the processing functions required in advanced
DAB/FM/RDS radio, without the need for an external
microprocessor. The module has the options of
a software FM/RDS function, eliminating the need
for a separate FM tuner chip. It also can be used
as a stand-alone DAB/FM receiver, or it can be
integrated with other audio components using external
microprocessor control via industry standard communications
protocols.
The Venice 4.0 DAB/FM/RDS module measures 100
x 40 x 8mm and mass production was due in late
2005.
