Advanced Battery Pioneer Joins Firefly Energy
Dr. Robert Nelson is moving from Firefly Energy
Inc.s technology advisory board to become
the Peoria, Illinois, companys full-time
vice president of engineering.
Nelson has spent 26 years in research and industry
involved with valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA)
batteries. For the last seven years, he has been
an independent consultant specializing in technology
analyses, VRLA battery design and manufacturing
optimization and trouble-shooting.
He recently formed a design/manufacturing process
and equipment group to address the development
of VRLA products for independent companies. Prior
to this, he was vice president of technology at
Bolder Technologies, finishing up the development
of their ultrathin-plate VRLA technology targeted
at high-power applications, such as power tools
and engine starting, including SLI batteries.
Dr. Nelson received a B.A. degree in chemistry
(cum laude) from Northwestern University in 1963
and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry/electrochemistry
from the University of Kansas in 1966. He spent
11 years in university teaching and researching,
producing 37 refereed journal articles and publishing
two book chapters, and earning recognition as
an international expert in the field of organic
electrochemistry/spectroscopy.
