Valence Technology Selected By Military
Valence Technology of Austin, Texas, has been
selected by Savannah River National Lab (SRNL)
to power a small fleet of Andros Remote military
vehicles. SRNL is using Valences patented
Saphion® technology in K-Charge power systems
to generate a fivefold increase in runtime and
range for the robotic vehicles.
The built-in communications capabilities of the
K-Charge enables the Andros operator to track
the temperature, voltage and amount of charge
left in the vehicles battery. This is particularly
critical, since travel distances may change during
the course of a mission and the operator needs
to know current range capability
Dr. James Akridge, president and chief executive
officer of Valence Technology, said, SRNL
selected our Saphion batteries for a number of
reasons, including exceptional energy density,
built-in communications capabilities and form-factor.
These features were key in helping SRNL to achieve
their design goals.
Valences lithium-ion batteries have been
used to power passenger plug-in hybrids, a fleet
of converted electric Hyundai Accents, and half-ton
electric pickup trucks under development for the
United States Air Force.
