Illegal Battery Plant Uncovered

Authorities recently found more than 50,000 counterfeit mobile phone batteries in an underground factory in Shenzhen, China’s Haizhu District, the Guangzhou Daily reports. The Haizhu District trade and commerce bureau staff raided the four-story factory in Xiyao Village after receiving a report from an informant.

There were more than 30,000 completed mobile phone batteries and an additional 20,000 half-completed batteries on the premises. If the batteries had been sold as authentic, they would be worth more than $616,523.

Approximately 20 people worked in the factory. They refused to reveal their employer, saying they had no knowledge of his identity.
