Electro Energy Wins Battery Contract

Electro Energy Inc. of Danbury, Connecticut, has been awarded a $1.1 million U.S. Air Force contract supplement to continue development of its manufacturing processes for a bipolar nickel-metal hydride aircraft battery.

This additional 12-month technical effort will further the development of equipment and processes for the scale-up to production rates of the bipolar NiMH technology, according to the company. Other objectives include improving performance and reducing the cost of the batteries to be competitive with existing nickel-cadmium and lead-acid batteries. The technology could also have applications in the commercial sector for reserve electrical power in automotive, aircraft, and hybrid vehicles.
