EnerSys Awarded $7 Million Contract

EnerSys has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) worth $7 million for its Armasafe Plus® military tactical vehicle battery.

Armasafe Plus batteries, incorporating Enersys’s proprietary thin plate lead (TPPL) technology, will be supplied to the DoD over the next 12 months. This award represents the second-year option of a five-year contract awarded to EnerSys in 2004 by the Defense Logistics Agency’s supply center in Richmond, Virginia – the Defense Supply Center Richmond (DSCR).

The batteries have delivered superior performance in battlefield situations in Iraq for the Stryker brigade and the Marine Corps, as well as in rigorous testing at military laboratories and on army bases in the U.S., such as Fort Hood. Armasafe Plus batteries also have been in use by the U.K. military for several years and were recently qualified by the German army, resulting in a contract.

The batteries are manufactured in Enersys’s highly automated facility in Warrensburg, Missouri.
