Electrochem's Rechargeable High Temp Cells
Electrochem Commercial Power is developing rechargeable
cells for high temperature environments.
The companys primary lithium cells have
been widely used for demanding applications such
as petroleum exploration because of their ability
to operate reliably even thousands of feet under
the earths surface, where temperatures may
exceed 150°C. Secondary cells will be highly
desirable for these applications because they
can be recharged on-site. In addition, high temperature
rechargeable cells will provide a reliable power
source for smart wells and other new
technologies that require remote installation
in harsh environments.
The Electrochem development team is led by Dr.
Arden Johnson. The cell will be available for
prototype sampling in 2006.
