Eveready Unveils Advanced Rechargeable Battery
Eveready Industries India has joined with a Hong
Kong-based company to launch a nickel metal hydride
battery, which is claimed to be three times more
powerful than the normal rechargeable nickel cadmium
batteries.
Evereadys rechargeable business senior executive
Zaurav Z. Medhi said it is aiming to capture the
rapidly growing rechargeable battery market in
the country following the growing usage of electronics
gadgets.
Eveready has partnered with a company from South-east
Asia to import the battery as well as the recharger
and would later decide about setting up its own
manufacturing unit. He refrained from naming the
company but it is believed to be Hong Kong-based
GPI International.
Medhi said that Eveready currently controls 40-45%
of the 7 million unit rechargeable battery market
and it was confident of further increasing its
share with the launch of the new product.
The B. M. Khaitan-controlled Eveready, which has
dominated the Indian market since 1905, already
controls 46.5% of the carbon zinc battery segment
and 85% of the torch and flash lights segment.
