NEC Organic-Radical Battery
The Nikkei Weekly reports that Japanese
electronics manufacturer NEC has developed a battery
for consumer electronics that can be recharged
in 30 seconds.
The battery delivers up to 80 hours of playback
time on a MiniDisc player with one 30-second charge,
making it similar in power to the nickel-hydrogen
cells widely used in digital cameras and portable
consumer goods.
NEC believes that its organic radical battery
can be used as an uninterruptible power supply
for computers. The battery can also discharge
in a short time, making it useful in applications
requiring a large amount of power.
