Asia Zirconium Building Factory
Asia Zirconium is spending $18 million for a
new battery manufacturing factory in Nanjing,
China. This is the company’s first step to
diversify away from zirconium chemical manufacturing.
The facility will produce 100,000 nickel batteries
a day by this month and 30,000 lithium batteries
a day by October. Asia Zirconium plans to boost
the daily production capacity of nickel batteries
to 400,000 by the middle of 2005.
The company produces raw material for Mitsubishi’s
lithium batteries and is in negotiations with
Sanyo. It hopes to increase its daily production
capacity of both superfine zirconium oxide and
nickel hydroxide to 2,000 tons.
